Bungee Jump . . . Part Two
Sorry, but on the day I shot this scene it was raining...so I don't have a shot of my actual setup. The white spot in the photo reference is a raindrop on my camera lens. I shot this scene outside so that I could get the sky and some trees for the backdrop. The bridge that my son and I built was propped up on two stools. I layed on the ground underneth to get this shot. Thanks for taking the time to check out my progress on these studies.
You followers who happen to be doing the deathline, I would love to see your progress and follow your blog....please leave me a comment with your link. Some time ago I did a logo for the band String. The meaning behind their name...A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. (NLT Ecclesiastes. 4:12). Taking this same thought concept and applying it to us as artists... if we stand alone/try to learn on our own, we will mostly fall or give up...but with the strength/support of other artists we will succeed.

Bungee Jump . . . Part One
Steve this one is for you dude! I took your bungee jumping idea and made it a reality, thanks so much for the idea. I'll post some shots of the photo shoot setup and more about the bridge next time. Please feel free to share The Life of Green and Orange with friends...Thanks for the continued support, have a great Monday everyone!

Snake Slayer . . . Part Four
Was able to finish this up, had to tell myself it is done so I can move on. It felt good to not paint the reference just as it is, but push my study a little more to have a finished illustration. I could keep working on these illustrations, but have to keep reminding myself that these are just studies to help me work on steps in the process to a finished piece. I have always had the habit of jumping right in to try to draw the finished piece, without fundamental steps to get there. Onward to the next action packed scene...

Snake Slayer . . . Part Three
This one is a bit more of a challenge for me. I spent too much time on the rocks, I need to work on speed eventually. Did some rough work on Orange, today I plan on finishing him up as well as work on the snake. Please feel free to leave me comments, this is extremely helpful to me. In the process of setting up my next photo shoot, rumor has it Green and Orange have found a good location to try out bungee jumping! Thanks again...

Snake Slayer . . . Part Two
Figured some of you might enjoy seeing a shot of my Snake Slayer setup. Setting up these study scenes has also been enjoyable since I like photography too. The photography part of my studies could be another blog in itself, about the whole process of getting a scene setup. It takes time and effort to make sure you have a good shot so you have a good reference to paint from. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! It was a nice break for me, enjoyed focusing on my studies a bit more and was able to shoot more reference scenes.

Snake Slayer . . . Part One
AAHH...back BACK, you vicious beast! Orange is about to be this snake's lunch. So what does any hero do when their is danger lurking about? Look it straight in the eyes and annihilate it!
This scene was so fun to setup, had some lava rocks hiding in the garage...perfect!. Had this snake figure and thought it would work for a good action, suspense study. The purple back drop is a piece of unfinished drywall. Many thanks for the ongoing support, it helps me a lot. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!

Pumkin Climb . . . Part 3
The climb is complete, it was a good one... but challenging as well. It was very fun, I love a good challenge. Now moving on to something new and different... what will be lurking around the next corner of this adventure? Check in tomorrow to see what trouble Orange has gotten himself into. Oops did i say too much? Thanks for following and have a great Thanksgiving!

Pumkin Climb . . . Part 2
These studies have been such a blast for me, hope they are for you guys as well. Thanks again for all the support. A great friend of mine gave me a suggestion for a study that I think is an awesome idea, thanks so much Steve! His suggestion is to have Green and Orange go bungee jumping. I except the challenge... keep following to see how that turns out! Not sure when I'll start that one, but very soon. Please feel free to leave comments here on my blog. Feedback is extremely helpful, and it will help with my other goal of being more social. Again thanks so much and keep following, tell as many friends you want about The Life of Green and Orange!

Pumkin Climb . . . Part One
Thought this study would be a cool idea for the holiday, since Thanksgiving is just a few days away. Wanted to do some action and suspense with this study too, since the last study was so fun to do. Here is the shot I picked from my photo shoot. Not sure if I'm having more fun with setting up the scenes and shooting them, or getting to paint what I come up with. I would have to say both, so again just a glimpse of some stuff these guys are getting into.

Cut to The Punch . . . Part 2
Ok, this 2 hour study might not look like much to some. My time spent was really to focus on Green's head and left arm. I really wanted to capture the head since it is the focal point of this piece. Orange's right hand will need the same attention as well. I think this painting study is coming along quite well, and very excited at the progress so far.

Cut to The Punch . . .
Enough of these basic poses, going for some action here. This study is going to take me a few days to complete. While I was shooting photos I captured this shot and loved it. I'm going to be showing steps on how I get to my final illustration, thought this would be a great one to paint. Hope this will explain more of my process, by showing you some steps of how I get there. This is just the begining of what Green and Orange are going to get themselves into. I have so many crazy ideas for these guys, stay tuned to see where Green and Orange will end up. Thanks for following my adventure, please feel free to leave any comments or feedback....in fact I would love some!

One step back, ten steps forward . . .
Hello followers, just want to thank you again for the all of the support you are providing!
Well in this painting study I took a step back to focus more on the form and mass of my subject. Looking back at the other two paintings, I noticed that I wasn't getting the form down before rendering out the painting. So I did a 2 hour study and focused on the form before I took the next step. This one didn't get fully rendered out like the others, but that is ok because my focus is on form. I do have to say it was very hard for me to just stop at the allotted time that I had given myself to spend on this study. Just need to remind myself these are studies, not finished illustrations. This study process is to help me to paint illustrations for clients and personal paintings that are to come. By studying form, lighting, texture, etc... I will be ready for whatever the client needs. As I get things more organized I will be getting a site going that shows my finished illustrations, and work that I have already done for clients. Hope you enjoy the show, there will be some fun adventures that Green and Orange will be getting themselves into very soon...what will be their first encounter? You won't want to miss it! Thanks again for your ongoing support...

Meet Orange . . .
To the ones that are following me on this adventure, just want to say thanks for your support!
Ok study two took a little longer, but got it done. Maybe it was because I was watching Brad Rigney's painting tutorial while doing my study. Meet Orange, not much to say about him now, except that I painted his head to small...hmm. This is why I'm doing these studies, to help me improve. Next study coming... Green or Orange not sure yet.

Meet Green . . .
This is my study I did late last night to get this started. This is Green, just a figure that a friend got me. I thought this figure would really help challenge me with my studies. As you can see lots of different textures, shiny reflective metal, glowing plastic, clear almost like glass head. Lots of fun stuff to paint. Which is going to be fun. I will be setting this little guy up, and taking photos myself for reference to do my studies from. I also have another one just like Green, but of course its Orange which I will introduce in my next study. These guys are about 4in. high and are poseable figures; I have endless, crazy ideas for these guys. Just hope they survive the adventure....
The Goal Of This Blog!
This blog is for me to challenge myself and push forward as an illustrator. I will be doing the Crimson Daggers Deathline Artist Challenge! The deathline is a 365 day challenge, where you set three goals you want to accomplish in a year. The deathline challenge was setup by Dave Rapoza and Dan Warren, just
a couple ordinary guys pushing themselves as artists. Just want to thank them for the time and effort they are giving to help other fellow artists, like myself.
So my goals are:
1) To exercise/get fit, to increase my personal energy and motivation.
2) Have a professional portfolio, by doing a study a day with The Life Of Green and Orange.
3) Network/get social with other artist.
I would like to invite anyone to follow me on this ongoing journey that is set before me. As I adventure along this exciting, twisty, up and down mountain path. Don't know what lies ahead around the next corner, or over the next moutain; but whatever I encounter I will push forward!
Let my journey begin...
